Senior Tax Manager

This role requires a deep, foundational understanding of small business tax compliance, including forms 1120, 1120S, and 1065. If you possess a visionary mindset, excel in cultivating high-performing teams, and thrive on driving small business growth, we invite you to lead our dynamic team as an Associate Director in our Fulfilment Department at 1-800Accountant. In this role, you will shape the direction of our client engagement strategies, leveraging your tax expertise to ensure our clients receive tailored solutions that secure their financial prosperity for years to come, alongside driving strong client revenue retention. You will excel in this role if you have prior experience overseeing a large department (50-75 employees) and have successfully worked in organizations that service a high volume of clients.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Leadership:

    • Support the development of and drive the execution of a comprehensive strategic vision for the Service Delivery organization, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

    • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of Managers, empowering them to lead their respective teams and achieve departmental objectives effectively.

    • Champion organizational health and employee engagement initiatives across all levels of the client services team.

    • Represent the Service Delivery organization in senior leadership meetings, effectively communicating performance, challenges, and strategic priorities.

  • Client Engagement and Relationship Management:

    • Oversee the delivery of high-quality advisory, tax, payroll & bookkeeping services, ensuring that client needs are met with professionalism, empathy, and expertise.

    • Collaborate cross-functionally with internal stakeholders to drive business growth, address client issues, and identify opportunities for service expansion.

  • Accounting Strategy and Compliance:

    • Provide strategic guidance on business planning, optimization, and compliance initiatives, leveraging advanced tax knowledge and industry expertise.

    • Stay abreast of changes in tax legislation and regulations, advising clients and internal teams on potential impacts and opportunities.

    • Champion a culture of compliance and ethical tax practices, ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements and industry standards.

  • Operational Excellence:

    • Monitor and manage key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics to assess departmental performance and drive continuous improvement.

    • Lead a Center of Excellence (COE), a community leadership role focused on identifying and driving improvements to how we work across a larger body of work (e.g., key business functions, operational excellence, and client delivery models).

    • Serve as the final escalation point for complex operational or client challenges, guiding the management team to effective and sustainable resolutions.

  • Talent & Organizational Development:

    • Lead the talent management strategy for the client services organization, including recruitment, succession planning, and leadership development for key roles.

    • Define and nurture a robust leadership pipeline, ensuring the growth and readiness of supervisors and managers.

What You'll Bring:

  • Strategic Leadership:

    • Proven track record of strategic planning, working with leaders across the business to craft and deliver an end-to-end client strategy.

    • Team leadership: demonstrated ability to manage a department of credentialed business advisors at a larger scale (80-150), driving employee growth and retention. Setting clear goals and expectations for the team and individuals.

    • Experience driving business results at scale in a client-centric environment.

  • Business Expertise:

    • Extensive experience in business advisory services, with a deep understanding of tax strategy, compliance, and planning for individuals and small businesses.

  • Client Focus: Exceptional client relationship management skills, with a demonstrated ability to build trust, rapport, and loyalty with internal customers and clients at all levels.

  • Flexibility and Adaptability: Ability to adapt quickly to changing priorities, client needs, and industry dynamics in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

  • Leadership and Mentorship: Proven ability to inspire, motivate, and develop high-performing teams, fostering a culture of accountability, cross-functional collaboration, and excellence.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA , or Enrolled Agent

  • 5-8 years of progressive experience in a client-facing role at an accounting or professional services firm. Direct experience with tax compliance, bookkeeping, and payroll services is required.

  • A minimum of 3-5 years of experience managing other leaders (manager-level direct reports).

  • Proven ability to lead, inspire, and develop large teams and mentor other leaders. Demonstrated success in building a positive and high-performing organizational culture.

  • Experience working in high volume client environment strongly preferred

  • Experienced overseeing orgs of 50-75 employees

  • Eligibility: Benefits begin the 1st of the month after 60 days of employment.

Compensation: $100,000 to $120,000
